Zinc plating

Post by Zedboy »

Well the guy I've always used for zinc plating doesn't want to be bothered doing it for customers now, so desperate times require desperate measures :-?
Decided to have a go myself and may as well document how it goes here.

So step #1 was to clear a bit of bench in the brothel I call a shed.
Step #2 was spend a crazy amount of money on setting up :banghead:
Yeah, I know you can plate in a Vegemite jar with a teaspoon of salt and a half flat vibrator battery, but thought I should give myself half a chance of success :D
So here we go....just waiting on a few more things to arrive at present.

So have the main tank plumbed in :D
Has a pump and filter under the bench. I'm using one of those magnetic impeller beer pumps and an under bench filter that has a 20 micron poly filter in it.

Things haven't progressed as fast as I'd hoped. First the supplier left the zinc anodes out of the box, then I ran out of hours.
Started again today...
Got the chemicals into solution and had a think about wiring etc.
Decided to add a couple of bus bars to run power from and also going to get some bigger sized anodes.

Doesn't anyone else in Tasmania do zinc plating? This sounds like too much effort Zedboy, you have far more patience than I do. And maybe more hours!

Yeah, well I'm kinda committed now (or should be  )
Will be nice to do things as I need them... providing I get the hang of it.
Hope to have a play again this weekend.

Not enough hours in the day :-?
Set up a couple of bus bars this arvo. Should keep wires up and out of the way and allow for adding more without the bench mess..... hopefully
