Spin On Filter Conversion For CX500

About 3 months ago I bought a spin on oil filter adapter for my CX500. I found mine at http://www.speedmotoco.com/ Decided to install it today. Easy peasy.

Prepping up for the winter oil change. The adapter is to the left of the oil filter.

Instructions say to spray the adapter liberally with brake cleaner/starting fluid to clean off the sealer and the other crud that sticks to it. Clean the engine mounting surface and the threaded hole where the stock oil filter bolt fits. Thread the adapter into the bolt hole and tighten with a thin screwdriver.

This should be about the time that the 'torque enhancer' drops into the oil drain pan. :eyebrows:

Recommended filter is a Fram PH9100 or equivalent. I'm using a top line NAPA 7272, only because the NAPA dealer is down the street from where I work. I learned quick that Fram filters are a hell of lot less expensive. :hmmm:

Oil capacity is increased by about a liter, (or litre, if you spell it that way).

Good idea that one. You may find the NAPA filter has a finer micron element to it. Often the cheaper filters are much coarser.

Good find Cheesehead. Whereas, I like the idea of an effective larger oil capacity and the simple adapter design, plus as Zeek says, the fitting of a NAPA fine filter, I think that the original alloy cover always looked "spunky". Perhaps, you could put it back on, for show days? Or maybe make an adaptor for the adaptor to take this signature alloy cover,

Well, original filter housing will be cleaned up and stored, along with an extra cartridge, in one of the saddle bags on the bike. Just in case. :think:

I can probably get away with the spin on for show days. Most folks won't know it's incorrect and those who do will either nod in agreement or chastise :slapbackofhead: me. If chastised, I'll asked if they noticed the incorrect tank and front fender, too. Or that it was ridden to the show.

An adapter for adapter? Hmmmm. :hmmm:
