Got Off My Butt

And got to doing the stator swap.

I must be getting better at this. The last time I dropped the engine it took something like four hours. Yesterday was 90 minutes. I got a far as removing the back cover off the engine, which took another thirty minutes. Would have only taken 20 if I pulled all the bolts. :idiot: Had a wedding reception to go to.

I'm really liking the HF motorcycle lift. Two small boards across the lift points provides a nice flat surface for the engine to sit. Being able to raise the engine to a decent height to work on it is another plus.

The lift has come in handy for a utility room rehab, too.

That damn stone sink weighs in excess of 100kgs and needed to get it out of the house to put in a new floor. And hot water heater. Cabinets. Shelving. Light fixtures. I ever tell you guys how much I hate home remodeling projects.

Done.

An all day affair in which three hours were wasted. One hour for arguing with my boss on the meaning of the words, "My day off." In other words, "I'm off the clock, leave me the fcuk alone." The other two hours were age related, as in "I just had that goddam wrench in my hand."

Family Portrait.

Nice family by the way!

Thank you.

Now I must say that I was a bit miffed as I still had an intermittent low speed miss. So, did I have a bad coil, too, or was the Finnbox going south? I started troubleshooting by swapping out the high dollar Iridium plugs for a pair of low buck copper resisitor plugs. No more miss.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! @#@%$&*!@**&%#. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Count to ten. Several times. I'm supposed to be a high dollar mechanic.

One of my Canuckistani friends tried to put it in perspective for me. He said that I now have a new stator in the bike that will outlast me and even if it doesn't, I know that I now have a functional stator on the shelf.

Good thing he's in Canada, I wanted to kick him in the nuts.

That new stator took a dump last August. Exactly one week after getting the okay from my foot doctor that I could start riding again. Low speed coil crapped out which meant no starty.

Soooooo, instead of dropping the engine a third time and splitting it, I opted for an Aussie built Rae-San Hall Effect System. I was able to install the Hall effect module and rotor without having to drop the engine. The FinnBox G47 was replaced by a pair GY-6 CDI units. Still somewhat cantankerous to start on a cold morning, but the start button is now an 'ON' switch once it's warmed up. Runs hard, just like it always did.
