which gasket set cb900

Postby Mike K » Wed Jul 23, 2014 9:30 pm

Hi all . I'm soon to strip down my 1980 cb900 engine .(it bleeds oil and has at some stage has been painted) . Ive had it running ,so the idea is to strip it , vapour blast the cases . polish whats needed and reassemble. Hopefully with minimal internal work /expense. Does anyone have any thoughts on an engine gasket set ? ie.brand , where to buy etc .

any other thought /comments welcome....thanks

I have used the Vesrah gasket before and have just ordered more the 450...but there are smarter characters here than me that may know better.
Where are you getting the vapour blast done? Don't know if you've seen my 450 ramblings but I'd have no hesitation recommending the guys that did it.
Your motor reminds me of my old Z engine...looks like you've been busy with the stripper?

Glenn, getting the blasting done same place as you . I saw your finished cases in the flesh ,,,they came up awesome . They currently have my frame and black painted parts to sandblast , and then off to the painters to be 2packed. Yep paint stripper and pressure cleaner.

I did the Z with stripper and scrubbing at home. But I wouldn't do it again!

I think the original factory cb900 engine had silver paint on main cases with clear over polished alloy on outer cases. can anyone confirm this ? Not sure whether to vapour blast then paint or vapour blast only. wonder which one stays pretty the longest .If paint is the go ,,,what sort ,,where from etc. any comments would be helpful /appreciated thanks
